M Tech: Two Days workshop on “Hydro Power-Plant, Renewable Energy Certificate & Regulations
The Department of EEE, School of Engineering & Technology (SET) in partnership with National Power Training Institute (NPTI) is organizing Two Days Workshop on "Hydro Power-Plant, Renewable Energy Certificate, and Regulations" on 7th November 2016.
Energy sector appears to be getting substantial attention because energy is a requirement for social and economic development. But this energy sector contributes immensely to Green House Gases emissions and climate change. Hence there is now a renewed interest in the renewable sources of energy and because energy is a requirement for social and economic development. Lab: Calculations for Alkalinity experiment
There seems to be some confusion about the calculations of Alkalinity test that is being performed this week.
Alkalinity in ppm (as CaCO3) = Volume of titrant used x N x 50 x1000 / Vol of sample
Here, N: normality of titrant = 0.1 N
Thus, alkalinity in ppm (as CaCO3) = Volume of titrant used x 5 x 1000 / Vol of sample
Also, if P: phenolphthalein alkalinity and T is total alkalinity, both calculated by using the above mentioned equations, then:
1) if T = 2P, Hydroxide alkalinity = bicarbonate alkalinity = 0, Carbonate alkalinity = 2P
2) if T < 2P: Hydroxide alkalinity = 2P-T, Carbonate = 2 (T-P), Bicarbonate = 0
3) if T > 2P: Hydroxide = 0, carbonate = 2P, bicarbonate = T-2P
Good luck with calculations.....

Lab notebook submission
All the students are required to submit completed and evaluated (signed by the respective lab-teacher) lab notebooks for Env. Engg. Lab by this friday, April 1. The notebooks are to be submitted to Mr. Anil in the EE Lab.
Poster Topics
From the posters received so far, I am surprised to see that few important water quality parameters such as "Chloride", "Solids" and "pH", etc. are yet to get any attention from students. These would have been much easier to make, since we are already done with Chloride test in the lab and pH measurement is also familiar to all.

Lab Chart/poster format
Dear All,
If you are yet to make your lab chart/poster, use the attached template. Just make the poster and save it as both a .docx and .pdf document and email it to me. I will get the printing done.
The size of the poster is 24" x 36". Do not use a font size of less than 24.
Make sure to add some images/pictures (only high quality images, of at least 1024 x 768 resolution).
For those of you who need live river data, visit the link: http://182.75.35.221/mowr/
Click on any of the stations and live streaming of data will start.
Send the poster to me by Mar 27. Bonus points for sending it to me by Tuesday, Mar 22 (50% for 2 pm submission) and Mar 25 (20%).
No submissions will be accepted beyond Mar 30.
I would suggest using Power-Point for making the poster and adjust the page size to 24" x 36" by using page-setup option (you may have to set it manually).

Discrepancy in class tests
It has come to my attention that a number of students are taking tests in different groups. For example, one student of Sec A-G2 tool the test with group G-1, without my prior permission.
Any such discrepancy would result in your test being canceled. This particular student's test has been canceled and he has been awarded a zero for the same.
If any such instance comes to my notice, you will be awarded a ZERO for being absent in your own group's test.
